Beautiful Gowns: Oscars 2019 Recap

What a night for music and fashion! Award season is when stars get to show up and show out, and the Academy Awards, or The Oscars, have a rich history of celebrity fashion finery. Last night’s red carpet was full of fashionable accessories, fly suits, and gowns...BEAUTIFUL GOWNS!!

(Lupita Nyong’o, SZA & Regina King dazzle in white)

Lupita Nyong’o, Regina King and SZA dazzled in pure white, while others shined in jewel tones and sparkles like Glenn Close, Brie Larson and Queen Latifah. And still others opted for more structured suiting like Amy Poehler and Awkwafina. Dapper gents like Henry Golding, Trevor Noah and Rami Malek exuded old Hollywood charm in classic tailored tuxes, while Stephan James, David Oyelowo and Chris Pine added flair with velvet in burnt orange, powder blue and deep green respectively. And I can’t talk about the red carpet without mentioning the amazing Billy Porter in his custom Christian Siriano tuxedo dress!

The awards themselves celebrated some historic wins. Mahershala Ali became the first black man to win two Best Supporting Actor Awards. Spike Lee won his first ever Oscar for his work on Blakkklansman. The cast of Black Panther did not come to play, and looked effortlessly stunning on the carpet. They kept that same energy as they became the first Marvel Studios film to win not one, but TWO Oscars for Best Production Design and Best Costume Design. You can thank Hannah Bleacher and Ruth E. Carter for that.

Check out the galley below for all of my favorite looks.

Sincerely, D.A.K.A
