It’s hard to talk about glow ups without bringing up Cardi B. Scrolling down your timeline at any given moment you’ll find footage of her performing at an awards show, giving an interview, making an appearance at a packed nightclub or simply dazzling on any number of red carpets she’s graced this year from the VMAs to the BET Awards. Turn on the radio and her summer anthem “Bodak Yellow” blares through the speakers making you feel like the absolute shit no matter where you are or your mood. Her presence is undeniable. Her music is hard hitting like her thick NY accent, and her style: impeccable. Cardi B. came to slay!
Born Belcalis Almanzar, Cardi B. is truly the definition of a self-made woman. She went from stripping in the club to escape domestic violence to becoming a social media sensation and starring on one of the most popular reality TV franchises, Love & Hip-Hop. Also, it’s probably safe to say she’s one of few from the franchise that successfully transitioned into a successful music career after the show (take notes Joseline).

Now with two successful mixtapes and a certified gold single with “Bodak Yellow”, Cardi is flexing a new muscle in the fashion scene. So far she’s acted as a spokeswoman for Fashion Nova and rocked top designers such as Alexander Wang, Fenty x Puma and Yves Saint Laurent to name a few. Most recently Cardi showcased a softer side when she stunned in a powder blue Christian Siriano ball gown, à la Disney princess at Rihanna’s Diamond Ball in NYC. I love seeing Cardi’s versatility and playfulness with her costumes and red carpet looks. Whether its floor length red hair and a diamond two-piece, or $1,000 stilettos and a mini dress, she’s constantly mixing a little of her Bronx hood upbringing and couture.
It’s pretty amazing to see her growth and transformation as a result of her grind over the past couple years. She’s already done interviews with the likes of Elle Magazine and Fader and been featured in Vogue and Complex. Her sayings like “money moves” and “washpoppin” and "foreva" have become a part of our lexicon showing up on Instagram captions everywhere.
Cardi seems to be genuinely happy and enjoying her newfound success and new relationship (she’s currently engaged to rapper Offset of Migos).
