For Day 3 in Black Fashion History we honor the Queen of Pop. Janet Jackson or “Ms. Jackson” is a living legend in the world of fashion and music and film.
Coming from the legendary Jackson Family, young Janet was destined for the spotlight.
She began her career performing on her family’s variety show in 1976 and went on to star in the role of Penny on “Good Times”. Her debut album dropped in 1982 but it was the release of Control in 1986 that solidified her as a pop icon. And she hasn’t stopped since. In her career, she has amassed 11 albums, 5 Grammys, 9 Guinness World Records, and 400+ award nominations.
Janet has continually reinvented herself through her music and style. She is a fashion trendsetter whose looks have inspired an entire generation. Her breakout role as the title character in Poetic Justice epitomized 90s style & singlehandedly has all the girls wearing box braids.
Now a new mom at age 51, she shows no signs of slowing down.
