Style Play: AfroBeatz

The sounds of the summer belong to Mother Africa and the Caribbean. With syncopated rhythms, chanting lyrics, and thumping basslines the influence of Dancehall, Reggae and Afrobeat music can be felt in songs spanning multiple genres: from Drake’s “Madiba Riddim”, Wale’s “My Love” and “Fine Girl”, and the various electronic/dance music of Major Lazer and Jax Jones. In addition to the music itself, the visuals are filled with colorful batik and Ankara print wardrobes, beautiful dancers of all shapes and sizes, and exotic locations straight out of an issue of National Geographic.

Check out my Style Play: Afrobeatz playlist on Spotify for some of my favorite songs that are sure to take you on a musical vacation.

Sincerely, D.A.K.A
