The "Essence" of Street Style

Style comes in all shapes, sizes, colors and patterns, and there was no shortage of any of that at this year’s Essence Street Style Festival.

This past Sunday, hundreds of NYC’s stylish elite descended on Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn for a day full of fashion and festivities. Aside from the great music, food, vibes, and appearances by Amanda Seales and Kelis, the individual style of the festival goers was what stood out the most …I mean, it is a street style festival after all.

From pastel afros and cupcake multi-tiered skirts, to Afrocentric patterns coupled with makeup straight from a 90’s Missy Elliott video, the uniqueness and versatility of black fashion was fully represented. Brooklyn based photographer and friend of the blog Bagheera Shakur was there to capture all the action. View the gallery below for a small portion of what he captured!
